This and all later photos were taken by me, as were many of the earlier ones.
The Alhambra is a palace complex in Granada, Spain. We spent an afternoon there on the way from Venice to Madrid. It’s filled with that wonderful Islamic geometrical detail.

The Foundation Triology is one of the greatest works of science fiction and an excellent piece of literature.

Reportedly, it inspired Paul Krugman to go into economics.

I wouldn’t mind living in Florence for a while. Great food, great art and architecture, truly lovely place. Nicer atmosphere than Rome.


Blink is an excellent Doctor Who episode.
Van Gogh’s Church at Auvers, usually residing in the Musee D’Orsay in Paris. Well worth a visit.
Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne is one of the high points of western civilization. The picture doesn’t do it justice. Galleria Borghese, Rome.
